What is Numerology?
In a nutshell, numerology is a system which manipulates numbers in such a way as to arrive at a personal prediction or certain guidance. The symbolism in numbers determine ways that an individual can or should deal with others, appropriate emotional reactions, inner needs, obstacles to overcome, talents and strengths, and aspects of an individual’s personality.
Numerology is one of many beliefs, traditions, and systems of psychic predictions through which esoteric or mystical relationships between living things or physical objects and numbers are created. It is a method of studying numbers in relation to how those numbers reflect certain character tendencies and aptitudes, as a part of the total cosmic plan. In some methods, each letter is assigned a numeric equivalence, such as the letter A being assigned the number 1, for example. These numbers are believed to provide a related cosmic, inter-relational vibrations.
Numerological divination or numerology was a very popular practice among the early mathematicians, such as the famous Pythagoras, who created the Pythagorean theory.
In today’s society, at least in certain parts of the world, numerology is assumed to be a part of the occult, similar to astrology, or some sort of a divination art-form. In some cases, the term numerology can be mistakenly used in ways that have nothing to do with the actual practice at all, such as mentions of using “numerology” in stock market analysis.
What is the History of Numerology?
The history of numerology began more than 10,000 years ago, with different cultures and societies practicing the art-form in their own way.
Today’s modern numerology includes parts of ancient cultures, such as Babylonia, and the instructions of wise teachers, such as Pythagoras. As far back as the 6th century B.C., Greece was enjoying some of the benefits of numerology. The practice was also included in early Christian mysticism, early Gnostic occultism, the Hebrew Kabbalah, the Indian Vedas, the Egyptian Ritual of the Dead, Hellenistic Alexandria astrological prophecy, and the Chinese Circle of the Dead.
Pythagoras, along with other noted philosophers during this time period, believed that mathematical concepts should provide greater actuality since they were practical, easy to classify, and easy to regulate. They turned to numerology for a number of reasons, including the prediction of the future. They discovered patterns of events in the stars, in life, and in relationships, and then applied numbers to help predict the future likelihood that these events would reoccur. The Pythagorean Theory is one of many discoveries related to numerology.
For early Christians, numerology played a vital role. According to Saint Augustine of Hippo, who lived from A.D. 354 to A.D. 430, numbers were to be regarded as a Universal language, a language which was offered to humankind by God as a way of confirming the truth. Humans were charged with the task of investigating and seeking out these secrets and relationships by using numerology, have them revealed through the grace of God, or live in ignorance.
Shortly after the First Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D., the Christian Church took a new stance when it came to the use of numerology. During that time, and as dictated by the Roman Empire, any departures from the central belief system was a civil violation. Since numerology did not have favour with the authority figures of Christianity, it was deemed inappropriate and unapproved, along with magic, other types of divination, and astrology.
Despite these purgative occurrences, the use of these sacred numbers and their spiritual significance has not faded away. The practice of numerology is still used in conservative Greek Orthodox congregations. It has been commented on in literature, mysticism, nature, and art. Biblical references and the work of Pythagoras have been compared and contrasted in scientific circles. It is also used to help people to understand themselves and others.
In recent years, there has been a remarkable resurgence of interest in numerology, as people seek to understand the significance of the information they discover.
How Does Numerology Work?
Numerology is one of those mediums that have no clear explanation for its success. Perhaps these numbers and their manipulation thereof is a skill which was taught by God. Maybe the practice was impressed upon the founding fathers of Numerology due to cosmic vibrations. Who knows! The number one factor to keep in mind is that it is important to have an open, objective mind, and allow yourself to enjoy the benefits of a numerology reading without actually knowing why or how it works. Just be glad that it does work, and accept it.
In numerology, numbers are assigned certain significance. Depending upon the method, the numbers could represent pillars of truth such as neutrality, creation, restlessness, responsibility, and completion, among others.
In essence, numerology is founded on the belief that all matter in the cosmic universe vibrates at a particular, unique frequency. Numerology helps us to discover the vibration rate of virtually any object, establishing the energies and qualities associated therein. The frequency of people can be determined by applying numerology principles along with some basic data, arriving at a final numerological analysis with significant, personal, life changing information.
Readings occur through different methods including digit summation, numeric values, the Chaldean method, Chinese numerology, and numerological divination where a birth date and name of an individual is analysed and defined for propensities and personality.
How Can Numerology Help People?
Through the study of numbers, one can learn a great deal about their purpose in life, character, what their talents may be, and what motivates them. Expert numerology readers use these numbers to help clients to determine when to make major moves or engage in certain activities. Numerology readings are used to determine when to relocate, when to change career paths, when to travel, when to marry, and when to invest, among other issues.
The core of any numerology reading involves the personality and four distinctive elements. A large percentage of the most significant information discovered in any numerology report comes from these elements, which are birthday, soul urge, expression, and life path.
The life path is perhaps the most important number in numerology. If you were able to describe a person based on one number, and you used a mathematical calculation to arrive at that number, the number would be their life path. Life path numbers describe the lessons a person must learn during their lives, and are often the central focus of life. In addition, it clarifies what is the best learning environment to reach these goals.
Expression is the next most important part of the reading. It provides a description of an individual’s natural talents, potential talents, abilities, and related character traits. For most people, these skills and talents are present at birth, yet further developed as one matures and grows. Often, although not always, these abilities play a primary role in the selection of career or work ventures.
The soul urge describes one’s inner motivation, such as who they want to be, hope to do, or hope to own, as well as any obstacles or abilities related to those motivations. It is influential in how a person’s point of view is formed as well as what upon which principles he or she chooses to operate. Although expression and life path may be easy to see in some people from the surface, the true motivation and soul urge of the individual if commonly quite private. These true urges are revealed through numerology.
The birthday element describes important characteristics of the personality, yet it is of least important when in comparison to the other elements. It is essentially an affirmation of the other three.
Why is it Important to Seek a Trained Numerology Professional?
Numerology is a science, not a toy. It is something which must be carefully studied, fully understood, and used carefully. Numerology cannot be used effectively by the layperson, although many individuals may attempt to do so, primarily because of the intricate methodologies and underlying meanings. Even in the early days, people turned to the wisemen of their cultural societies to explain numerology phenomena. The same is true today.
A trained numerology professional has gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to the study and understanding of numerology methods. They are clear-minded in their quest, and will rarely lead any client astray. In addition, they have honed their skills to such peak performance that they can easily avoid any biases or “feelings” which may arise during a reading, keeping their focus on the issue at hand.
Along with the generalised numerological studies, a professional reader can help you to determine additional factors in your life that an untrained individual would have no clue how to determine nor evaluate. Some of these additional factors include karmic debts, personal modifiers, intensity points, karmic lessons, modified karmic lessons, birth names, personality differences, the choosing of names for children, pets, and businesses, and the personal year.
If you are looking for a numerology reading, it is very important to seek the assistance of someone who is well trained in the field. Granted, anyone can attempt to conduct their own numerology study. However, they will have no clue whether or not their reading was accurate!
